About Jack O’Connor

Jack O’Connor is a successful businessman, dedicated husband and father, unflinching conservative and a change agent for Houston City Council. Jack O’Connor is a fiscal conservative resolutely committed to bring common sense costs-savings measures to the City of Houston, along with a sensible job creation environment.

Jack’s interest in the importance of being a politically active citizen was fostered at a young age when, as a teen in 1964, he campaigned for Barry Goldwater. He became more dedicated and his activism grew as he campaigned for Richard Nixon in 1968 and 1972. In 1980 and 1984, it was Ronald Reagan for whom he beat the streets. With conservative activism spanning more than four decades, Jack O’Connor has the ingrained understanding of the conservative principles that we expect in our leaders. In 2010, Jack ran for the Texas State House in a campaign that promoted fiscal accountability, true education reform and reduced government.

First moving to Houston 36 years ago, Jack has experienced the economic cycles of the city and the issues that arise as a result. Jack has seen our area lose manufacturing jobs and the comprehensive job retention rate plummet for years. As a man that built his career in business, Jack understands the issues facing our economy and he has the tools to help focus our economy on job retention and new job growth stimulation. While working for large companies such as Worthington Pump, Dresser Industries and Flow Technologies, Jack has held positions in all disciplines: operations, sales and marketing, P&L, management and eventually as a board member with an equity share. Jack O’Connor knows the penny-pinching problems that our families and our city are facing and is determined to seek jobs and smart fiscal policy for all Houstonians as we enter into the next decade.

Taking his business expertise and entrepreneurial spirit, Jack opened his own small business, Oak Tree Consulting, working with domestic and international companies in the pump and machinery industry. Jack O’Connor understands the concepts of free market, regulation, profit & loss and, most importantly, accountability. Whether it was to a CEO or his shareholders, Jack has been held accountable for his actions and decisions and is committed to ensuring that our elected officials play by the same rules. Jack knows that a stable and efficient city government is needed to retain and attract new businesses to Houston.
